on smaller servers where you don't have enough players to have multiple in the same proffesion groups can put 1000time markups on there goods as you need that 20 iron bars to makes a stove or wait 8 days to put a skillpoint into smithing and they group also put in a law against smelting without the skill etc -host just spawning stuff etc -using the population map to harvest/destroy all of one resource needed for crafting to sell at a ridiculous markup -pretty much claims can be placed anywhere another claim isnt you can get 100's from cheap research scrolls on most server griefers generally dont make more then a building so use 10 then the other 100 they just annoy people with there is no limits like claims need to be near your own constructs or they disapear if you havent use the claimed area. The biggest thing would be griefing: -people dropping claims at inconvinient spaces ie on the redwoods so loggers cant get the easy wood, over mines, roads on some crops a gatherer planted but didnt have the claims for. Plus it takes a good skill to know what laws might have their intended effect. Maybe it's something people can fix with a good set of laws, but almost every server I've been on has had very few people wanting to pass any sort of laws that trample on anybody. It's gotten me to the point where I just take up the Mining specialization so I can feel relevant at all points when I can't just game for hours upon hours on end, since Mining is always useful from start to finish (can't say the same for the woodworking specializations, sadly). Further, some people are online all the time, and they get much, much farther ahead than people who have lives, which I find unfortunate. I've been in about 5 servers, and 3 lot of them didn't even have a Discord set up with active members schmoozing in voice chat. This makes my contributions not feel worthwhile. Secondary reasons are lack of community and having the economy centralize on a few people. I like a goal to work toward, because I'm not a very self-driven individual, so everything I do I try to do for an ultimate goal of helping everyone climb the tech tree.
